MOOMAU-GRANT COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY The Grant County Public Library began in 1966 in the Conference Room of the Potomac Valley Bank with about 355 donated books and Homemakers Clubs and volunteers processing the books and keeping circulation records. In 1968 Betty McCartney was hired as the librarian. In 1975 the library moved to the old Grant County Bank building, and in 1980 the Grant County Public Library was incorporated. In 1978 the Allegheny- Mt. Top Public Library opened in the old elementary school building, and in 1984 moved into a new building in the Mt. Storm Community Park at Mt. Storm. By 1986, the main library was in need of a larger facility, and with money from the state and local donations, and a donation of land, the new building was completed in 1990 and renamed the Moomau-Grant County Public Library. The new building is of the Williamsburg design and features a cupola, a children's room, and a history/genealogy room called the Browne Room (endowed by Carleton and Dorothy Browne). The present library board consists of Cynthia Geary, JoAnn Harman, Ann Harrison, George Ford and Patrick Flaugher. |
